The biggest update in series history
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 didn’t get off to the best start because while the multiplayer was relatively solid, if a little too similar to last year’s Black Ops 6, the campaign was a mess. As a result, it’s been on the back foot in the first-person shooter war, with sales likely down compared to Battlefield 6.
Activision isn’t resting on its laurels though, with Season 1 due to bring one of the biggest content updates we’ve ever seen to Call of Duty, landing on Thursday Dec. 4. One Reddit user, /u/brando347, described the roadmap as “nuts for one season,” adding “if this is the bar they are setting for post-launch content, we are eating good this year.” Check out the launch trailer below.
Season 1 brings the following:
- 6x new maps, including two more Black Ops 2 remasters.
- 7x new weapons, including a returning Black Ops 4 assault rifle.
- 9x new modes, including five returning “party” modes, a brand new objective-based mode coming mid-season, winter-themed limited time modes, and one more currently unknown redacted mode.
- 4x world events coming to Endgame, including the return of the titanic Origins robot from Black Ops 2’s Zombies.
- 3x Zombies maps, including Astra Malorum, which is set within a planetarium floating in space.
- 6x new Warzone modes, and a new map.
- New operators, skins, bundles, weapon attachments, scorestreaks, Zombies perks and gobblegums, and more.
Redditor /u/derkerburgl reckons players are “not just eating, we’re feasting,” while /u/Demolitions75 is excited for both the crossbow and the ballistic knife making a return. The overwhelming consensus on X is positive too, especially for both Standoff and Fringe returning from Black Ops 2.
Seems like last year’s fairly uneventful post-launch schedule for Black Ops 6 was because the team wanted to go all in this year. It’s a very strong start, but the real test will be whether they can keep up this cadence in future seasons.
