October officially marks the start of spooky season: that’s the rules; I don’t make them. To kick off the Halloween celebrations, the Epic Games Store is giving away two treats: one a little kooky, while the other is full of wholesome, cozy vibes. As winter seeps in and the cold weather along with it, both TerraScape and Out of Sight are perfect for chill nights shrouded in blankets, so make sure you pick them up.

Let’s start off with TerraScape. Described as a “cozy, medieval city-puzzler,” you’re tasked with building high fantasy kingdoms on a series of floating islands. Choose your initial slate of buildings, then fit them together strategically to unlock some more. As you expand, you’ll find that your structures benefit from what’s around them – if you place them in the correct biome, they’ll receive a positive buff, for example. You can also combine buildings to grant much stronger influences, and even trigger some special effects. But be careful, there are debuffs, too. Strategic placement is key, especially on an island where there’s limited space.

TerraScape is also multiplayer, with a fun PvP mode where you’ll race to build up points, and a co-op mode if you’re just looking to build with your pals. You can also pick up the brand new Ancient Egypt DLC (which drops today, Thursday, October 8) if you want to add some pyramids to your settlement.

Bitfall stresses that TerraScape isn’t a 4X game or a management sim. You take things at your own pace, and there’s no real sense of urgency. Perfect for autumn nights in, don’t you think?

The second game on the Epic lineup is Out of Sight, which is a far cry from the chill, cozy vibes of TerraScape. Cast as Sophie, a young, blind girl who views the world through the eyes of her teddy bear, you’ll be running from your mysterious captors while slowly unearthing the secrets of the dreary mansion you’ve been imprisoned in.

Out of Sight’s primary selling point is its unique, second-person perspective: as Sophie, you can place Teddy down to scope out the area, in turn helping you avoid enemies and enabling your escape. You’ll have to watch where you put your feet, and utilize all of your senses to come out on top.

Having just played Hellraiser Revival, I’m in the market for a new horror game. Out of Sight’s weird shifting perspective, as well as its purple-blue color palette feels like an easy win, and God knows I love being stealthy.

TerraScape and Out of Sight are free on the Epic Games Store until 8am PST / 11am EST / 4pm BST / 5pm CEST on Thursday, October 15. You can pick them up here, so get playing.
