With Fortnite taking on a fright-filled theme for Halloween, it’s worth checking the Fortnite system requirements to make sure your PC isn’t set to give you nightmares as you fight for battle royale victory. Fortnite is one of the best free games on PC, but a lot has changed since it first launched as a crafting survival game back in 2017. Given its age, you won’t need the best GPU from our buying guide to run Fortnite, but we can help you find the best Fortnite settings if you’re struggling to get decent performance across any of the game modes.
Here are the Fortnite system requirements:

Good news! You don’t need a dedicated graphics card to hit the Fortnite minimum requirements, as the integrated GPU on the Intel Core i3 3225 is powerful enough to secure you a place on the battle bus. Your performance will be very limited, but you can at least join in the fun, and even a very modest graphics card upgrade will open up loads more performance. A card such as the AMD Radeon RX 7600 or Nvidia GeForce RTX 5050 will be more than enough to seriously boost fps.
Moving up to the Fortnite recommended specs doesn’t require the best graphics card either, as the Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 or AMD Radeon R9 280 will suffice. That said, the more powerful your pixel pusher, the higher your frame rate will go.

If you’re after only the best performance possible, you’ll be aiming for the Fortnite ultra requirements, which is the set of specs that will guarantee you high visual fidelity and frame rates, but unfortunately, no victory royales. That’s still a skill issue.
There’s a clear jump in power here, but by modern standards, many mid-range gaming PCs will still be able to clear these specs with ease, especially when compared to the likes of the Cyberpunk 2077 system requirements.
Epic doesn’t mention what frame rates, detail settings, or resolutions any of the above requirements will get you, but generally you can expect the minimum requirements to let you game at 720p or higher with low detail settings at over 30fps. Meanwhile, recommended settings should get you up to a 1080p resolution with medium settings at 60fps, while ultra settings will let you push beyond 1440p resolutions with high detail settings and high frame rates.
Epic doesn’t formally list what the official Fortnite size is, but based on our current download, it requires approximately 140GB, and this includes the Festival and LEGO game modes. This is a huge increase from the 90GB size it used to be, but then the game has expanded massively.
