All Indian cricketers who underwent pre-season fitness tests at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) over the weekend, including Test captain Shubman Gill and ODI skipper Rohit Sharma, have passed. According to PTI, the others who went through the tests — Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Washington Sundar, and Shardul Thakur — have also cleared and thus are ready for the season.

The report said that the players underwent not only the standard Yo-Yo test but also a DXA Scan.

The Yo-Yo test has been used for years in Indian cricket, especially since Virat Kohli’s time as captain. It involves running back and forth between two cones set 20 meters apart in time with beeps from a recording. The pace starts slow but increases gradually, and players get brief recovery periods. The test continues until players fail to keep up with the beeps — which is then an indicator of their endurance.

On the other hand, in a DXA scan, or the Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry, a medical image is created that measures bone mineral density, body fat, and lean muscle mass using low-dose X-rays. It is used to assess injury risk, especially fractures.

Apart from Rohit and Shardul, the players who underwent fitness tests are set to travel soon to Dubai for the 2025 Asia Cup, either as squad members or as reserves. The tournament starts on September 9, while India play their first match against the UAE side on the following day.

The test was especially crucial for Gill, who pulled out of the Duleep Trophy, where he was named the North Zone captain, because of a fever. Meanwhile, Rohit, having retired from T20Is, won’t travel for the Asia Cup and is likely to stay back in Bengaluru for a few more days to train at the CoE, as per the report.

His next international assignment would be the ODI series against Australia in November.

India’s 2025 Asia Cup squad: Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Shubman Gill (vice-captain), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Jitesh Sharma (wicketkeeper), Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakaravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Harshit Rana and Rinku Singh.
