The Witcher Season 4 came out on Netflix today and introduced fans to a new Geralt (played by Liam Hemsworth), a new Lodge (of Sorceresses), and a new villain in the shape of Leo Bonhart (Chappie star Sharlto Copley). So what’s next for the massive Netflix franchise? Does Henry Cavill’s early exit spell doom for The Witcher‘s future? Is The Witcher Season 4 the final season of the supernatural show?
The Witcher first arrived on Netflix back in December 2019. It was a lavish adaptation of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s best-selling books, which in turn have also spawned a series of super popular video games. Henry Cavill originally starred as Geralt of Rivia, the titular Witcher, a super-powered monster hunter whose destiny is interlocked with that of Princess Cirilla of Cintra (Freya Allan), nicknamed “Ciri.”
The first season of The Witcher followed lead characters Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) on individual timelines, establishing their backstories to hype up their interwoven fate. Since then, these characters have been split apart, reunited, and torn asunder.
The Witcher Season 4 ends with Yennefer and Geralt in positions of leadership and with Ciri in terrible trouble. Will Netflix complete this story? Will there be a fifth season of The Witcher? Or has The Witcher been cancelled?
Here’s everything we know about how and when The Witcher will end…

Is The Witcher Cancelled?
Is Netflix done with The Witcher for good? Sort of.
In April 2024, Netflix announced they had renewed The Witcher for a fifth and final season.
So there will be one more season of The Witcher yet to come, but the show is definitely ending.
Will There Be Season 5 of The Witcher on Netflix?
Yep! The Witcher Season 5 is coming to Netflix.
Production on the fifth and final season began in early 2025. The Witcher Season 5 will adapt the story found in the remaining books in Sapkowski’s Witcher series: The Tower of the Swallow and Lady of the Lake.
When Will The Witcher Season 5 Premiere on Netflix?
We don’t know for sure when the final season of The Witcher will drop on Netflix, but we have a rough idea.
The Witcher Season 4 went into production in April 2024 and landed on our screens in late October 2025. Meaning, it takes about a year and a half from the start of production for a season of the show to make it to Netflix.
Because production on The Witcher Season 5 started in March 2025 — and was not hampered by COVID-19 or strikes — we can estimate that the final season of The Witcher will drop late 2026.
