For the first time, visitors to the Maha Kumbh can easily book train tickets by scanning QR codes on the jackets of railway staff at Prayagraj station, say officials.
“This unique arrangement by North Central Railway aims to make ticket booking simpler for devotees using digital technology,” said Dileep Kumar, Executive Director of the Railway Board’s Information and Publicity Department, as per The New Indian Express.
During the Maha Kumbh 2025, Railway commercial department staff will wear green jackets with QR codes at Prayagraj Junction. Devotees can scan these codes using their phones to download the UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) app.
The app will allow passengers to book unreserved tickets without queuing up. “This digital solution will save time, reduce crowds, and offer a smooth ticketing experience for the lakhs of devotees attending the event,” Kumar added.
The festival, running from January 13 to February 26, is expected to draw over 40 crore visitors, showcasing India’s rich culture and spiritual traditions.
To handle the crowds, the Railways plans to run 3,124 special trains, alongside 10,100 regular trains, from January 10 to February 28. Additionally, 278 ticket counters will be set up, and Prayagraj station’s capacity will be increased to accommodate up to 1.02 million passengers daily.
