Manchester United have submitted a bid of over £100 million to sign Xavi Simons from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, according to Fichajes.
Manchester United’s season entirely hinges on the Europa League final, which they will play on Wednesday against Tottenham Hotspur, a team who have endured a similarly dismal campaign. The Red Devils have been brilliant on the continent, a stark contrast to their form in the Premier League.
Man United will finish the 2024/25 season with their lowest-ever point tally in the Premier League era. At the time of writing, the club sit 16th in the top flight and were it not for the already-relegated bottom three, Man United could have been in a genuine fight for survival, which is staggering to think for a club of their stature.
Ruben Amorim clearly needs reinforcements in the summer to better implement his ideology on the team. The Europa League final, should Man United win, would give them Champions League qualification, which is why it is imperative for the club that they emerge as the victors of that game. Should this be the case, then the Red Devils would be well-positioned to convince this target into signing a contract with them.
Man United Bid for Simons
Could the playmaker move to Old Trafford this summer?
Fichajes have reported that Xavi Simons has been the subject of a €135 million bid from Manchester United, which converts to around £113 million. Simons joined Leipzig in 2023, soon after rejoining Paris Saint-Germain who bought Simons back from PSV Eindhoven, where the Dutchman broke out.
Xavi Simons 24/25 Season Stats | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Minutes Played |
Bundesliga | 25 | 10 | 7 | 2,157′ |
Champions League | 5 | 0 | 0 | 337′ |
DFB-Pokal | 3 | 1 | 1 | 269′ |
Across 18 months in the Bundesliga, the Dutchman developed into a star, becoming a crucial part of the Leipzig first team. Simons has been dubbed “one of the best 10s in the world” for his ability. Now, though, with the 2024/25 Bundesliga season at an end, Leipzig have failed to qualify for the Champions League. As such, according to GMS sources, the club are willing to cash in on Simons to make up for the Champions League revenue they will now lack.
Manchester United are clearly alert to this if recent reports are correct. Simons would certainly not be cheap and any deal, presumably, depends on whether the club qualify for the Champions League or not. In Simons, however, the Red Devils would be signing an exceptional number 10 to slot into Amorim’s tactical set-up.
