Only in Pakistan could this happen. Just six months after his promotion to Field Marshal, Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir is poised to assume the additional role of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF). This comes despite his military suffering a severe setback in the four-day near-war with India in May.
Pakistan on November 8 brought in a Constitutional amendment to create the new post of CDF to “ensure greater coordination and unified command among the three services”, according to Dawn. The CDF will replace the existing post of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
