“We were disappointed with our first off of the season but that’s done now, and everyone is fully focused on having a good second half of the campaign.
“Brighton are in good form, so it’ll be a tough test for us. Friday night games under the lights always carry a bit of a special feel and everyone’s raring to go and looking forward to getting back out there. Brighton are probably in the position that we want to be – in the top half of the table and pushing towards the top spots, so it’ll be a good test for us and one we’re really looking forward to.
“On a personal note, I have picked up a slight knee injury, which is likely to keep me out for a few weeks, but I’m working hard to get back and help the girls as we target a strong finish.
“Last week, I announced my retirement from international football. It seemed to be a natural ending with the new cycle starting. Of course, it was disappointing I couldn’t finish at the Euros this summer but ultimately I’ve had a lot of good times in green and a lot of fond memories.
“When I think back to how things were when I started relative to now, it’s like chalk and cheese. If you put a good shift in and can leave the jersey in a better place then I think ultimately you can be happy with your efforts and the work that has gone into playing for your country.
“It will be great to see the Liverpool supporters again tonight. I’m sure they’ll be hoping for a better start from us to the second half of the season than the first and we know we need to get them more.
“They’ve been there for us through thick and thin, so we’re looking forward to getting back out in front of them again and hopefully we can get the new year off to a winning start.”
