PPU rules to curb plagiarism in PhD theses: Registrar
In a bid to uphold academic honesty, Patliputra University has introduced rigorous plagiarism regulations for PhD theses, limiting similarities to 40% and imposing consequences on supervisors for exceeding this threshold. Additionally, as part of the NEP 2020 initiative, the university is refreshing its postgraduate curriculum to enhance career readiness and research competencies.

Patna: Patliputra University (PPU) has worked out comprehensive rules to check PhD plagiarism at its recent academic council meeting held under the chairmanship of VC Upendra Prasad Singh. This decision has been taken to uphold academic integrity across the university, said PPU registrar Abu Bakar.Under the new guidelines, it was decided that plagiarism of more than 40 per cent in PhD theses would not be permitted. “It further resolved that in cases where plagiarism levels are found between 40 and 60 per cent, the research concerned supervisor’s annual increment could be withheld,” he said, adding the step aimed at ensuring higher standards of originality and accountability in doctoral research across the university.The university also approved a proposal to revise and update the syllabi of several postgraduate regular courses including maithili, home science, psychology, chemistry, prakrit and persian, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The revised syllabi will be designed to better address contemporary academic needs and enhance students’ employability and research capabilities, the registrar said.In addition to academic reforms, the university announced examination schedules for the upcoming semesters. The PG regular third semester examinations for the 2024–26 session is being conducted from November 20 to 26 while the undergraduate examinations for the 2023–27 session will be held from December 1 to 5, said examination controller Manoj Kumar, adding examination centres have been designated across Patna and Nalanda districts.The university registrar emphasised the university’s commitment to maintaining academic excellence and implementing NEP 2020 fully to enhance quality, transparency and innovation in higher education.
