Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences told to give funds for college infrastructure

Bengaluru: The govt has directed Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) to allocate its surplus funds for building infrastructure of govt medical colleges.
At a review meeting of the medical education department held at the CM’s home-office Krishna on Thursday, it was discussed that the university has Rs 1,400 crore in deposits, and its committed expenditure is around Rs 400 crore. The govt asked it to transfer Rs 600 crore to the department. It may be recalled that while such a direction to transfer funds to the medical education department was made during the previous BJP regime, the university’s syndicate decided against it.
For fiscal year 2024-25, a budget of Rs 4,331 crore was allocated to the department, with Rs 3,099 crore already released. Of this, Rs 3,005 crore was spent, achieving a progress rate of nearly 97.%.
The CM said steps should be taken for the appointment of a KAS officer at Nimhans, while also directing that all approved projects for fiscal year 2023-24 must be completed within the stipulated time. This included the construction of 450-bed hospitals in Gadag, Koppal, Karwar and Kodagu districts.
