MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (KTTC) – During the month of April, the American Red Cross is celebrating National Volunteer Month by asks any potential donors to keep the blood supply stable by making an appointment to give blood now.

The Red Cross depends on thousands of volunteer donors in order to collect more than 12,000 blood donations, and about 3,000 platelet donations every single day. Blood drives are also dependent on volunteers to make it possible for the Red Cross to continue to help people in need.

The Red Cross encourages all to come out and donate, as it will be traveling to different locations to collect blood from generous donors. The Red Cross added, specifically, Type O blood is especially needed to make sure hospitals are fully stocked with lifesaving blood products this spring.

All who come to give blood from Apr. 14-30 will receive an exclusive Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last, plus be automatically entered for a chance to win a $5,000 prize. There will be three winners. To see available drives in April, click here.

For May, volunteers will be rewarded with a $20 e-gift card to a merchant of choice. Also, throughout May, those who come to give blood will be automatically entered to win a U.S. trip of choice for two. Details for available drives in May are here.
