Red Dead Redemption‘s John Marston says there’s some “exciting news” seemingly linked to the series coming in the next few days, but has remained tight-lipped on what we can expect. Rob Wiethoff, who plays Marston in both RDR and Red Dead Redemption 2, made the tease during a Twitch stream of him playing the 2010 original. With Grand Theft Auto 6 now delayed into next year, it seems even more likely that Rockstar will want to close the gap with something to keep us all busy, whatever that might be.
Recently, Wiethoff started streaming Red Dead Redemption on Twitch. In the middle of his most recent stream, though, he suddenly pauses the open-world game and delivers a titanic teaser, which you can both watch and read below. Wiethoff’s quote has been edited for clarity.
“I’ve got such exciting news.” Wiethoff begins. “I can’t share it with you right now and it’s absolutely killing me. Not as soon as tomorrow but definitely before Friday. Oh my goodness, the news that I have to share, and I won’t be the only one sharing it. I cannot wait for you to know what’s going on.
“I truly cannot think about anything else, especially playing this game.”
As of writing, it’s not entirely clear what Wiethoff’s tease could be referring to, but I have some ideas. With the original Red Dead Redemption finally making the jump to Steam with enhanced graphics and performance, it makes sense that RDR2 could get some similar improvements. Perhaps we’ll get a 60fps patch for consoles, alongside some enhancements to the PC version of the game. Or maybe it’s a Nintendo Switch 2 port instead, considering how the new hybrid console is likely powerful enough to handle it.
While it seems likely that whatever Wiethoff is teasing is related to Red Dead Redemption, it’s important to temper expectations. It could be nothing. Or, it could be something. Whatever happens, hopefully it’s enough to keep us busy ahead of the Grand Theft Auto 6 release date.
