One of the best, not to mention quirkiest, new crime dramas on network television today is High Potential. The procedural follows Morgan Gillory (Kaitlin Olson) as she acclimates to her new life as a consultant for the Major Crimes division of the LAPD. Or rather, while others acclimate to her.
The show became a massive hit, averaging 11.5 million viewers through both network airing and streaming, and ranked as the number-one TV drama for viewers aged 18-49, according to Nielsen Streaming Content Ratings, noted ABC Entertainment. Thus, the swift renewal did not come as a surprise. The show strikes the right balance of standard procedural, tender and emotional moments, and comedy. The cast has wonderful chemistry, and Olson steals every scene. With season two on the horizon and season one ending with a massive cliffhanger, fans are on the edge of their seats waiting to learn what happens next.
When Will Season 2 Be Released?
There’s no confirmed return date for High Potential just yet, but it will be back in the Fall. Since Season 1 premiered in mid-September 2024, fans are hopeful that the release schedule will be the same and the show will return sometime in September. Season 1 had just 13 episodes, but given the show’s popularity and reception, it’s possible Season 2 could be longer, as predicted by Entertainment Weekly.
Production photos have been released confirming that filming has begun. Based on a photo of Olson holding a clapperboard, James Roday Rodriguez (Psych), who directed the season one finale “Let’s Play,” will be directing the first episode of the season.
Where Can You Watch ‘High Potential’?
High Potential airs weekly on ABC. The show is also available to stream in the U.S. on Hulu and internationally via Disney+. Season 1’s episodes aired on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET, and Season 2’s episodes will follow the same weekly schedule.

What Will Season 2 Be About?
There’s a lot up in the air for Season 2. Of course, there’s the big mystery about Morgan’s missing husband, Roman, and whether he will be added to the story. Morgan, meanwhile, has been enjoying a flirtmance with Tom (JD Pardo), a former janitor at the LAPD who has moved to complete nursing school and start working as a nurse.
There are also hints of feelings between Morgan and Karadec, with him showing a romantic attraction towards her as he gets to know her. Both men complicate her personal life, especially with Roman potentially coming back into the picture.
Meanwhile, the case involving the mysterious Jigsaw-like kidnapper, played by David Giuntoli, remains open. While Oz was saved thanks to Morgan’s quick thinking, others are still missing. The killer continues to goad the authorities into playing his sick game of “find them before they die.”

If High Potential closes its only overarching story by introducing Roman, it will need to find a way to keep viewers gripped beyond that. The storyline with Roman would have to involve his permanent return, a viable reason why he has to continue on the run, or his death. With Morgan clearly still in love with her first husband, he likely still madly in love with her, it might be too harsh for a lighter procedural like this one to end their love story in tragedy.
There needs to be room for Morgan to grow personally and on a romantic level, but it also can’t become a distraction from her work, which is the aspect of the show fans love to see: Morgan in action, observing, analyzing, and pointing out details no one could have fathomed.
While some fans are “shipping” Morgan and Karadec, the show would probably be better off without a romance between them. The constant frustration Karadec feels in dealing with Morgan and her antics is what makes the dynamic so fun to watch. While Tom would be a great partner, they both have demanding jobs and don’t live nearby anymore, so it simply wouldn’t work.
With that said, High Potential is, at its heart, a procedural, so even if it’s just about the case-by-case episodes, fans would probably be just fine with that. The real magic, after all, is with Morgan and Karadec. As long as those two continue to work cases together, that’s all fans need.
