Look, normally I’d say anyone who plays as Loki in Marvel Rivals is exhibiting rat behavior. The pesky God of Mischief is a troublesome foe in NetEase’s hero shooter, but you know what, I’m secretly quite fond of him. We all need a bit of whimsy and wonder in our lives, which is why I’m sad Loki has disappeared. However, it looks like NetEase is just up to no good before Season 10 launches.
If you boot up Marvel Rivals right now, I suggest you head to the game’s character lineup. All seems well at first; Spider-Man, Black Widow, and the rest of the gang are all there. But look closer, and you can see Loki is gone. His spot on the roster is there, technically. Yet, where his cheeky visage once looked me in the face, it’s been replaced by a black background. Upon further inspection, it appears to say ‘missing’ in Norse typography. You can still click him, though, and it brings up Loki’s lore and cosmetics.
So what is NetEase playing at? Well, there is a simple explanation. Season 10 of the free Steam game is rumored to feature Gorr the God Butcher. In Marvel Comics lore, Gorr is known for slaughtering several heroes and villains, notably the giant, benevolent friend of Thor, Falligar the Behemoth. Elsewhere, he murders the Sky Lords of Indigarr by leaving them hanging to rot. It’s pretty gnarly stuff.

Of course, if you’re an MCU fan, you’ll remember Christian Bale as one of the better parts of the otherwise mediocre Thor: Love and Thunder. It isn’t the first time Gorr has been mentioned in Marvel Rivals, either. Season 9 introduced him as an ominous villain working in the background. In this universe, he has already slaughtered countless deities, including Apocalypse and Khonshu, while preventing them from being resurrected.
After discovering the Faith-Harvesting Engine, a device that collects the power of worship, Gorr sees an opportunity to make his god-killing crusade even more devastating. Now, with the heroes realizing that Gorr is behind a string of divine murders, he has one goal: “All gods must die.” Season 10 of Marvel Rivals is set to launch on Friday, September 11, 2026. There’s plenty of time to stock up on Marvel Rivals codes and check out our Marvel Rivals tier list in the meantime.
