Lucknow: Riding on splendid centuries by skipper Karun Nair and Yash Rathod, Vidarbha crushed Uttar Pradesh by eight wickets in the final league encounter of Group D in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the Vizzy Stadium, Vizianagaram, on Friday.
With this loss, UP were virtually out of the knockout race. Vidarbha topped the table with 20 points, while UP were in third place with 14 points. Tamil Nadu also had 14 points but secured second place due to a better run rate.
Batting first, Uttar Pradesh posted 307 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 50 overs, with in-form Sameer Rizvi slamming 105 off 85 balls, including five boundaries and seven sixes. Other notable contributors were Madhav Kaushik (41), Abhishek Goswami (32), Priyam Garg (34), and Shivam Mavi (33*). Nachiket Bhute claimed four wickets, while Darshan Nalkande took two.
In reply, Vidarbha chased down the target with 16 balls to spare. Yash Rathod remained unbeaten on 138* off 140 deliveries, hitting 15 boundaries and a six. Karun Nair scored 112 off 101 balls, with 11 boundaries and two sixes. Together, they added 228 runs off 206 balls.
