- Features a distinct styling
- Will be based on the River Indie
- Likely to be launched later this year
Yamaha’s upcoming electric scooter based on the River Indie has been spied testing in India for the first time. The electric scooter is a collaboration between Yamaha and Bengaluru-based EV startup River.
Yamaha invested USD 40 million (approximately Rs. 335 crore) in River Mobility in early 2024, aiming to leverage River’s expertise in EV technology. This partnership will enable Yamaha to use the River Indie’s platform to develop an electric scooter under its brand.

Spy images reveal that the Yamaha electric scooter shares its chassis and powertrain with the River Indie. It sports a distinct design with notable differences, including a redesigned taillamp positioned higher than on the Indie, revamped side panels, and a reworked front apron with a new vertically oriented headlamp. The scooter retains the 14-inch wheels and a six-inch colour TFT display, similar to the River Indie.
While official specifications of the electric scooter are yet to be released, it is expected to mirror the Indie’s performance. The River Indie features a 4kWh battery pack, offering a claimed range of 120km, and is powered by a 6.7kW electric motor producing 26Nm of peak torque. The scooter can accelerate from zero to 40kmph in just 3.9 seconds.

The Yamaha electric scooter will be manufactured at River’s facility in Bengaluru. Production is slated to commence later this year, with a market launch expected towards the end of 2025.
