2 UAB football players assaulted on campus, teammate in custody

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Police and Public safety is investigating an assault that allegedly took place between three UAB football players on Saturday morning, Nov. 22.

According to a spokesperson for UAB, the assault happened at the Football Operations Center.

After the assault, the UAB spokesperson said the suspect was in custody and there was no threat to the campus. Birmingham Fire and Rescue confirmed two people were taken to the hospital.

Later in the day Saturday, UAB issued the following statement:

UAB confirmed to ESPN that the two players injured were stabbed.

The stabbing occurred hours before the Blazers were set to play their Senior Day game at Protective Stadium.

UAB is not releasing the name of the players involved at this time due to the ongoing investigation. WBRC confirmed that Daniel Mincey was taken into custody by UAB Campus Police on Saturday.
