Moana 2—Disney’s animated hit starring the voices of Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson—is still in theaters, but soon it will it be available to watch at home.
Moana 2 was released in theaters on Nov. 27. The logline for the film reads, “After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.”
The film was a smash hit out of the gate for Disney, earning $225 million in its five-day Thanksgiving weekend opening.
According to When to Stream, Moana 2 will arrive on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, Jan. 28. People also confirmed the date on Monday.
When it is released on digital streaming, Moana 2 is expected to be available on PVOD on such digital platforms as Prime Video, AppleTV and VUDU.
Although the digital purchase price has not yet been revealed, new PVOD titles generally range from $19.99 to $29.99, while digital rentals generally run from $14.99 to $24.99 for a 48-hour period.

How Was ‘Moana 2’ Received By Audiences And Critics?
According to The Numbers, Moana 2 has earned $445 million domestically and more than $567 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $1.012 billion to date against a $150 million budget before prints and advertisting.
Rotten Tomatoes, critics gave Moana 2 a 61% “fresh” rating based on 229 reviews. The RT Critics Consensus for the film reads, “Riding high on a wave of stunning animation even when its story runs adrift, Moana 2 isn’t as inspired as the original but still delights as a colorful adventure.”
Audiences responded more favorably to Moana 2, giving the film an 86% “fresh” score on the RT Popcornmeter based on 10,000-plus verified user ratings.
Natalia Winkelman is among the top critics on RT who gave Moana 2 a “fresh” review, writing in her New York Times review, “Onscreen, the details of this fabricated, composite mythology get a little murky. But squint your eyes against the specifics, and the odyssey tends to deliver a mood that fluctuates along a scale of benign to bright.”
Katie Walsh also gave Moana 2 a “fresh” rating, writing for the Tribune News Service, “A worthy sequel, with gorgeous animation, a thoughtful representation of Polynesian culture and another exciting adventure for our inspiring Moana. Does it go beyond the first film? No, but that would have been a tall order.”
Lovia Gyarkye of The Hollywood Reporter is among Moana 2’s detractors. Gyarkye writes in her THR review, “Where Moana focused on the relationship between the titular adventurer and her reluctant demigod companion, Moana 2 divides its attention among more characters. These personalities become window dressing in a movie short on time.”
Tim Grierson of Screen International also gave Moana 2 a “rotten” review on RT, writing, “What once seemed so effortlessly charming about this young wayfinder forging her own path has, in Part Two, become more convoluted and stilted — it’s a journey that, frustratingly, leads nowhere.”
Rated PG, Moana 2 is still playing in theaters and arriving on PVOD on Tuesday.
