Minimum temp sees sharp rise, but winds bring down max

New Delhi: The city saw a five-degree rise in the minimum temperature due to cloudy skies at night, while the maximum temperature dropped because of cool northwesterly winds blowing from the mountains following fresh snowfall. Strong surface winds, despite mostly clear skies during the day, prevented daytime temperatures from climbing further.
On Tuesday, the minimum temperature stood at 15.6 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal, against 9.6 degrees Celsius a day earlier. Weather analysts attributed this increase to overnight cloud cover, which trapped heat radiated by Earth. The day remained largely clear, with partly cloudy conditions for a brief period.
The maximum temperature on Tuesday was recorded at 27.5 degrees Celsius, the season’s average, compared with 31.1 degrees Celsius a day earlier. According to Mahesh Palawat, vice-chairman, climate change and meteorology, the maximum temperature will remain low for the next two days, witness a marginal rise later, and increase from March 9 onwards.
“For at least two days, the temperature will be down due to strong cool winds coming from the mountains. Around March 9, maximum and minimum temperatures will rise due to a western disturbance,” said Palawat.
