Between The Elder Scrolls 6 and the long-rumored Oblivion remake, the future of Bethesda’s fantasy RPG series can’t come soon enough. While we wait, though, there are plenty of ways to stay busy. Whether it’s the incredibly ambitious year that Elder Scrolls Online is about to have, or the myriad Skyrim mods that keep reinventing the land of the Nords, there’s always something happening in Tamriel. Bet you never thought you’d see Oblivion implanted into Doom though, right?
Well, Reddit user ‘Sloth_Johnson’ has done exactly that. They’ve given Oblivion a new lease on life, transforming its gameplay to reflect the ultra-violence and UI of classic ’90s boomer shooters. The FPS game still plays like Doom, but your gun’s a sword and the imps are adoring fans, squealing as steel slices into their flesh.
The below clip ends with Patrick Stewart’s Uriel Septim VII brought down with one swift swing, as the camera sways to a rhythm only Doom can master. It’s nothing short of marvelous, and begs the question of why we don’t have more fantasy boomer shooters. Sloth_Johnson’s work is so good it’s like entering a bizarro universe where id made its shooters in a fantasy mold. I can only assume Bethesda has some sort of huge, demon-slaying RPG in this universe, too.

With The Elder Scrolls 6 release date still eons away, and the Oblivion remake supposedly dropping any day now, Sloth_Johnson’s video is a delightful alternative. It comes right as ESO is undergoing its own major reinvention, too, which shows that 2025 could very well be the year of Tamriel.
I wouldn’t expect this Doom and Oblivion crossover to be made playable anytime soon, however, as the modder explains themselves. “Don’t think I can ever release this sadly, with all of the Bethesda assets and whatnot.” Still, nothing quite brings a smile to my face like watching swathes of adoring fans cut down in their prime.
