If you want to become an all-powerful being on your very own server, or speed up the process when building multiple structures, console commands – or cheats – can save you a lot of time.

Valheim commands can even be used with friends on a private Valheim server, provided you are the host. There are also Valheim cheats and commands for spawning items, kicking unwanted players, and unlocking the whole map, and we’ve included them all below for anyone running their own public server.

Using Valheim console commands

The first thing you need to do to use Valheim commands is to enable the console. To do this, you need to:

  • Right-click Valheim in your Steam library
  • Go to ‘Properties’
  • Type -console into the box below where it says ‘Launch Options’
  • Close the Properties menu

If you’re playing Valheim via Game Pass, you need to create a shortcut to the .exe file, open the properties of that shortcut, adding ‘-console’ to the Target section of the Shortcut tab.

After doing this, you can open the console in Valheim by pressing the F5 key. If the console doesn’t appear after pressing F5, open the Options menu in-game and make sure the Show Console option is ticked. To enable Valheim commands and cheats, you need to type ‘devcommands’ into the console.

Once you have the console up and running, and have entered devcommands, you can type any of the below Valheim commands to achieve a specific effect – this could be anything from banning a player, teleporting yourself to a specific location, or killing everything in your immediate vicinity.
